All-New Isuzu D-Max achieves 5 star Euro NCAP rating
The All-New Isuzu D-Max is the very first pickup to be awarded a 5 star Euro NCAP rating, which is the maximum safety rating available to award vehicles.
Euro NCAP, which stands for New Car Assessment Programme, determines the safety of a vehicle by conducting a series of tests. These tests are designed to replicate real life accident scenarios that could endanger the occupants or other road users.
The technology in cars is now much more advanced than it was even just a few years ago, making certain models safer than ever before.
Euro NCAP will rate cars using stars, the more stars, the safer the vehicle is in the event of an accident.
When a car is awarded a 5 star Euro NCAP rating, it also means that safety features are readily available to all consumers across Europe. Euro NCAP define a 5 star rating as: ‘Overall excellent performance in crash protection and well equipped with comprehensive and robust crash avoidance technology’.
The All-New Isuzu D-Max’s are equipped with forward-facing stereo cameras and, as a result, every model comes with Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limiter and Lane Departure Warning & Prevention System.
The D-Max’s E-Call System, which is designed to call the emergency services in the event of an accident, specifically when the airbags are deployed, has said to have contributed to scoring maximum points for rescue and extraction tests. The driver also has the ability to manually activate the E-Call using a button on the overhead console.
As well as rescue and extraction, the Isuzu D-Max also scored full points for the child occupant test, which tests against front and lateral collisions. In the event of an accident, children aged between 6 and 10 years old had maximum protection from stronger chassis, airbags and Isofix anchors.
The driver also has the opportunity to deactivate the passenger airbag when they are travelling with a rear facing car seat in the front passenger seat.
The Euro NCAP conditions are said to be much higher than previous years and Isuzu have introduced more ADAS (Advanced Driver Assist System) upgraded airbags, larger brakes and alterations to the chassis which has contributed to the 5 star award.
The All-New Isuzu D-Max has a new chassis cab mount that is able to absorb more noise and vibration, making travelling in the D-Max a much smoother and quieter experience.
